Who We Are

The Episcopal Majority is a grassroots organization committed to the values and vitality of The Episcopal Church and working to neutralize the negative influence of the American Anglican Council (AAC), the Anglican Communion Network (ACN), and related groups. The impetus for our group began in Columbus, Ohio, during the recent General Convention of The Episcopal Church. Initially, we were a group of former university chaplains, but our membership has grown to include many people and organizations from different places (both theologically and geographically). We welcome their participation.

We have felt for some time that there needed to be an organized response to the well-financed and well-organized groups whose words and actions have been largely destructive. Many others, clergy and lay alike, are looking for ways to counteract the damage done and to build a coalition representing the majority of The Episcopal Church.

Additional signatories are being sought, and this list is updated periodically to reflect those.

News Flash 08.25.06: We have now established an e-mail account. If you want to be included in this list, please use the "Contact Us" button, located in the upper left section of this page, in the “About …” links. At a minimum, please include your title (the Rev., Ms., Dr., etc), name, and diocese. You may also note the name of your parish and town, but we are not publishing those in this list.

Why do you see the AAC and ACN as having a negative influence. They believe differently from you. Both 'sides' are polar opposites. It is simply a fact. You both are in total disagreement about Christianity. So split -it's the healthiest thing to do. But it shouldn't be a battle. It should be as amicble as possible. don't you think so?

Friends, we have had some challenges in adding the signatures as fast as they are coming in through the Web and offline sources. But I think you'll see a major update tomorrow. If your name is missing or has mistakes, please continue to use this "Comment" function to tell us about them.

The good news is this list -- and our website and movement -- are growing much more quickly than we anticipated. Thank you for your patience as we run to catch up.

Maurice, it will be my pleasure to add your name, and I'm grateful to hear of the support in the Philippines.

Let me also add this reminder for some others: In this list, we are only adding members of The Episcopal Church. As many of you know, TEC includes people in [if I'm not mistaken] 16 different nations. That includes the Philippines, I'm proud to say!

Welcome aboard, Maurice.

And thanks to the the many others here who have added notes of their support. Please check the new (as of this evening) "We've Got Mail" entry, now on our front page. We're looking for more essays, think pieces, and such for our website.

The Duke, I think you're confusing The Episcopal Majority with solme other sites. Want to talk about "Forming an organisation with the sole object of opposing other people"? Can you spell A-A-C? or A-C-N? They are FOR nothing, but against the Episcopal Church!

We are one church, but with about 10% of our membership acting like yapping pitbulls who want to hate women, hate gay people, and want bigger, even pointier hats! Let them take whatever crumbs +Akinola gives them and good riddance!

James, we don't yet have a mechanism for financial support. But some folks are working on it now, as we are beginning to incur some expenses.

If you are interested and want to be kept informed of news on that or other topics, please send an e-mail to us by using the "Contact Us" button at the upper-left sidebar. That will let us keep in touch as our plans develop.

Please add my name to your list. In this Age of the use of the name Christianity to advance agendas of seperation and hate, it is an honor to be associated with those who practice the Christianity my mother taught me.

I had an Uncle who used to tell me that I wanted to be good because come Judgement Day those who led the best lives got good seats in the celestial stadium where God would confront those who had used His and His Son's name in vain--- hope to see you all in the Box Seats.

I am celebrating the election of Barack Obama to the presidency. I am proud to be an American again. I have not felt this proud since I was a child when my beloved priest, listed here, Father Wesley W. Konrad, marched in the Civil Rights marches and taught our parish in Syracuse, New York about equity and love and peace. I have cherished those lessons learned as a child and have carried them with me throughout my life. I have taught about diversity and equity at the college level. I have worked internationally and have tried to build understanding between Saudi Arabian children and teens and US children and teens. I have always kept Father Konrad in my heart. I have always been grateful for what he taught my family about liberation. I am proud that my nation has now voted for the most qualified and intelligent candidate who just happened to be Black. I am proud to have voted in this historic election, and I thanked God/Allah/G_d for my childhood priest as I voted.
With love to all who work for freedom and peace and equity,
Judy Williamson Batson
formerly of Calvary Episcopal Church in Syracuse, NY.
